Prevailing Wage Rate Determinations

The Construction Wage Standards Section determines prevailing wage rates for most local governmental and state public works projects. A prevailing wage rate determination is commonly referred to as a "white sheet".

If you have a question on a Department of Transportation state highway project in Wisconsin, please call 608-266-6961. If you have a question on a federal Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rate determination, visit the website www.wdol.gov/. If you want to file a complaint on a federal Davis-Bacon project in Wisconsin, please call 608-441-5221.

As of January 1, 2009, a prevailing wage rate determination is required when the total cost of an entire project is $48,000 or more and primarily one trade is required to complete the entire project or, $234,000 or more if more than one trade is required to complete the entire project.

A copy of the applicable prevailing wage rate determination must be posted by the contracting agency in at least one conspicuous and easily accessible place on the site of a project. A local governmental unit may post this document at the place normally used to post public notices if there is no common site on a project. This document must remain posted during the entire time any worker is employed on a project and must be physically incorporated into all proposals, specifications, contracts and most subcontracts.
