| There are currently 3,069 full-text LIRC
UI Decisions and 291 UI court decision summaries
available on-line. To search in all of these documents, enter a query here
and click on "Search": |
| The first two buttons locate decisions issued within
the current and previous months. If any decisions issued earlier
than that have only just been uploaded to this site within those months,
the "recent uploads" button will find them. "Recent Cir. Ct."
locates summaries of Cir. Ct. decisions issued in the last month or so. "UI Digest
#s" allows programmed searches using topical section numbers from the UI Digest.] Tips for formulating queries:
Queries may use a word (e.g., misconduct) or a combination of words.
They may also use category numbers from the UI Decision Digest
system (e.g., MC 660, the digest category number for misconduct
- negligence). [Note: As an alternative to drafting a digest topic query
here, the on-line UI
Digest provides "programmed" search buttons which will automatically send
such queries for every topic in the digest system].
Adjacent words or terms are treated as a phrase. The Boolean connectors AND, OR, AND
NOT, and NEAR may be used to connect words, terms or phrases. An asterisk may be used as a
"wild card" for any word ending (i.e., misc*
will
find misconduct, mischief, etc.).
It is also possible to search by type of document (i.e., LIRC
or Court decision summary), date of decision, and (in the case
of Court decision summaries) county. See Searching by type, date, county.
Quotation marks should not be used in a search term.
For more advanced information on using this search capability, see More tips for searching.
Please note, that this is not
a collection of all of LIRC's unemployment insurance decisions, but only of a
limited number which have been archived based on a staff assessment that they might be
useful as research tools. Neither the inclusion nor the omission of any particular
decision should be taken as an indication of the commission's views on the general
significance of the decision.
Please note also, that these decisions have been converted to
HTML, and for that reason they should not be considered exact reproductions of the
originals. These versions of the decisions are provided here as an aid to research only.
Copies of decisions may be obtained at the commission's offices.
Please note also,
that the capsule summary of the decision which appears on the search
results page is not part of the commission's
decision and does not necessarily reflect the views of the
commission. The summaries are editorial content created by
commission staff solely for the purpose of aiding researchers in
quickly identifying whether a decision found by searching may touch
on issues they are researching.
While the names of all of the members of the commission are listed in the signature
block in the decisions, this is not necessarily an indication that all members signed the
decision. In earlier cases, the information as to which members signed is not reflected in
the version of decision at this website. In most decisions issued since early 1998, that
information is provided, by way of the indication " /s/ " before the
name of each member of the commission who joined the decision..

Searching for
Documents by Type, Date, County:
The Title of each document in this collection contains a distinctive
phrase indicating the type of document, that is, whether it is a LIRC
decision or a Court Decision summary (these phrases are Wis.LIRC UC Decision
and UI Court decision summary). In addition, the Title of
each document contains the date the decision was issued. Also, the
Title of each Court Decision summary file also contains the relevant county.
Because of this, you can easily search for these documents by type, date or county, by
limiting your search to the contents of the Title. To do this, you need to
use the term @DocTitle
followed by the word or words you wish to
find within the document Title.
For example, to search for a decision issued on a particular date,
use a query like this:
| @DocTitle January 20 1999 |
|
(note: do not use
a comma after the date) |
To search for all LIRC UC decisions issued in January, 1998, use:
@DocTitle Wis.LIRC UC
Decision AND
January AND 1998 |
|
|
To search for all UC Court Decision summaries from Dane County, use:
@DocTitle UI Court decision summary AND
Dane |
|
|
You can also search within the Title of a document, and search within
the content of the document, at the same time. To do this, simply enclose
your "Title search" inside parentheses, and then follow it with your search term
for the content of the document. For example, this query will find all LIRC UC
decisions issued in 1998 which contain the word "misconduct":
( @DocTitle Wis.LIRC UC Decision
AND
1998) AND misconduct |
